For the second year, the LSWC has participated in The Natural Edge program. This program looks to improve shoreline stability along fish bearing waters through the use of native vegetation. Along Moosomin Reservoir, there are several areas which have had significant erosion in recent years. This year, we selected three sites which had a large amount of erosion, and a fourth site with mild erosion but a large amount of invasive species we are hoping to replace with native species.

On October 14th, we set up for members of the Moosomin Generals football club to come to the Moosomin Reservoir and plant shrubs along the 2018 erosion control sites. After setting up, the group of ten members came in and 250 shrubs were planted, mulched, and watered.

In the spring, the LSWC will return to the 2017 and 2018 sites to set up livestock exclusion fences. With the various species of willow, dogwood, sand cherry, grasses, flowers, and the livestock exclusion, the shoreline will stabilize with a dense mat of roots holding the soil together.
